31st Annual Concert Season: 2008-2009

Concerts are in the Boutell Concert Hall of the Music Building
of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb or in the historic Egyptian Theatre in downtown DeKalb.

Benefit Concert

"The KSO Goes to the Movies"

Join the KSO for a spectacular journey through some of the most popular music in silver-screen history.  This array of memorable motion-picture music will include selections such as from Superman, Star Wars, Phantom of the Opera, Schindler's List, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Psycho, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, The Elephan Man, and Harry Potter.

Holiday Pops Concert

When: Friday, December 5, 2008, 7:00 p.m.
Where: Egyptian Theatre

"Winter Wonderland"

Enjoy music of the holiday season as the KSO presents its annual Winter Wonderland Holiday Pops Concert.  An audience sing-a-long and other holiday favorites are included in this family-oriented program. Children will also have an opportunity to play toy musical instruments with the orchestra.

ADM Young Artists Concerto Competition Concert

When: Sunday, March 1, 2009 , 3:00 p.m.
Where: NIU Boutell Concert Hall

Be spellbound by the amazing young musical talent in the Northern Illinois region as the KSO features the winner of its annual Arthur D. Montzka Young Artists Concerto Competition.  This concert will also include the Saint-Saëns Danse Bacchanale and Beethoven’s landmark Symphony No. 3 (the "Eroica" Symphony).

Plus a performance by this year's Arthur D. Montzka Young Artists Concerto Competition Winner(s)

Children's Concert

When: Friday, March 13, 2009 , 10:00 a.m.
Where: Egyptian Theatre

This is the annual KSO concert, by invitation, for groups of school children from the region.

Spring Concert

When: Sunday, May 3, 2009, 3:00 p.m.
Where: NIU Boutell Concert Hall

"Forefathers of Russian Music"

The KSO concludes its 31st season with colorful and powerful music from 19th-century Russia. The orchestra will take you through a musical journey with composers who helped create Russian nationalism.
