39th Annual Concert Season: 2015-2016

All concerts, except the Summer Concert in the Park, and the Music Through the Ages concerts, are held in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall of the Music Building at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

Fall Concert: Voilà Viola

When: Saturday, October 10, 2015, 7:30 pm
Where: NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall

There will be a free pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall.

Halloween Concert

When: Friday, October 30, 2015, 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
Where: NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall

The KSO will present its annual free concert of music with a theme appropriate for children and adults. The 5:30 concert will be repeated at 7:30, and there will be trick-or-treating in the building a half hour before the 5:30 concert.

Music Through the Ages

When:

Friday, November 13, 2015, 10:00 a.m.

Where: Egyptian Theatre, DeKalb

Each year, the KSO presents a concert, not open to the general public, that is specifically for students and their teachers invited from elementary schools in our region.

Music Through the Ages

When:

Saturday, November 14, 2015, 11:00 a.m.

Where: Egyptian Theatre, DeKalb

The November 13 elementary-school concert, with possible modifications for a wider audience, will be presented to families and the general public on November 14.

 

Holiday Pops Concert: Winter Wonderland

When:

Friday, December 11, 2015, 7:00 p.m.

Where: NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall

Arthur D. Montzka Memorial Concert    

When:

Saturday, February 27, 2016, 7:30 p.m.

Where: NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall
There will be a free pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall.

This concert will feature this season’s winner of the
Arthur D. Montzka Young Artists Concerto Competition.

  • Overture to Die Fledermaus, by Johann Strauss, Jr.
  • ADM Concerto Competition Winner (to be determined)
  • Symphony No.. 2 in D Major, Op. 73, by Johannes Brahms

Spring Concert: The Majesty of Mahler

When:

Saturday, May 7, 2016, 7:30 p.m.

Where: NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall
There will be a free pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall.

Summer Concert in the Park

When:

Thursday, June 25, 2015, 8:00 p.m.

Where: DeKalb’s Hopkins Park Band Shell

The KSO will present its annual family-oriented free concert at the Dee Palmer Band Shell in DeKalb’s Hopkins Park.

This concert is supported by the DeKalb Park District and the Sycamore Park District.

Family Fun Day 

When: Saturday, August 8, 2015
Where: Sycamore Community Park, 940 E. State St., Sycamore

This year’s KSO Family Fun Day will include golf beginning at 1:45 p.m., with the pool open until 6:00 p.m., kids’ activities beginning at 4:00 p.m., a social hour at 5:30 p.m., and a gourmet picnic dinner (for a limited number of diners) at 6:30 p.m.

More detailed information on this event, including how to obtain activity and dinner tickets and how to become a sponsor, will be available later.
