34th Annual Concert Season: 2010-2011

All concerts, except the Summer Concert in the Park and the Children's Concert, are held in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall of the Music Building of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

Summer Concert in the Park

When: Thursday, July 22, 2010, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Hopkins Park, DeKalb

The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra will be performing a variety of light classical, Broadway and Silver Screen selections including The Blue Danube Waltz, The Sound of Music, and Star Wars. Bring the entire family to this fun and exciting free concert of popular music under the stars!

Fall Concert: Scandinavian Splendor

When: Saturday, October 2, 2010, 7:30 p.m.
Where: NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall

  • Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 16 - Grieg

Halloween Concert

When: Saturday, October 30, 2010
5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Where: NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall

The KSO will present a FREE concert of music with a Halloween theme and appropriate for children and adults. There will be trick-or-treating a half hour before the 5:30 concert.

Children's Concert

When: Friday November 19, 2010, 10:00 a.m.
Where: Egyptian Theatre

Each year, the KSO presents a concert, not open to the general public, that is specifically for 3rd-, 4th, and 5th-grade students and their teachers from elementary schools in our region.

This program is partially supported by local business and by a grant from the Rockford Area Arts Council which receives support from the City of Rockford, the Illinois Arts Council and its members.

Holiday Pops Concert: Winter Wonderland

When: Saturday, December 11, 2010, 7:00 p.m.
Where: NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall

Let the KSO warm your hearts with the music of the holiday season. Many holiday favorites including Haydn's Toy Symphony and a seasonal sing-a-long are included in this traditional family concert.  Who knows, maybe the “Big Guy in Red” will make an appearance…..?

ADM Young Artists Concerto Competition Concert

When: Saturday March 5, 2011, 7:30 p.m.
Where: NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall

Be spellbound by the amazing talent found among Illinois young musicians. The winners of the KSO’s annual Young Artists Concerto Competition will perform with the orchestra.
