33rd Annual Concert Season: 2009-2010

The public concerts are in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall of the Music Building of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

Fall Concert: Happy 200th Birthday Felix Mendelssohn!

When: Saturday, October 3, 2009, 7:30 p.m.
Where: NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall
  • Hebrides Overture, Op. 26, by Felix Mendelssohn
  • Concerto in E Minor for Violin, Op. 64, by Felix Mendelssohn, Mathias Tacke, violin.
  • Symphony No. 5, Op. 107 “Reformation," by Felix Mendelssohn.

Halloween Concert

When: Friday, October 30th, 2009, 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Where: NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall

The KSO will present a FREE concert of music with a Halloween theme and appropriate for children and adults. There will be trick-or-treating a half hour before the 5:30 concert.

Children's Concert

When: Friday November 20, 2009, 10:00 a.m.

Each year, the KSO presents a concert, not open to the general public, that is specifically for 3rd-, 4th, and 5th-grade students and their teachers from elementary schools in our region.

Holiday Pops Concert: Winter Wonderland

When: Saturday, December 12, 2009, 7:00 p.m.
Where: NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall

Let the KSO warm your hearts with the music of the holiday season.  Many holiday favorites including Haydn's Toy Symphony and a seasonal sing-a-long are included in this traditional family concert.  Who knows, maybe the “Big Guy in Red” will make an appearance…..?

ADM Young Artists Concerto Competition Concert

When: Sunday, February 28, 2010, 3:00 p.m.
Where: NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall

Be spellbound by the amazing talent found among Illinois young musicians. The winners of the KSO’s annual Young Artists Competition will perform with the orchestra. They are Ryan Murphy from Maine South High School in Park Ridge, and Nathan Noh, from Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire.
