KSO 's Annual Season Preview
The Kishwaukee Symphony Associates hosted a preview of the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s 2010-2011 season as an afternoon of music and fellowship on Sunday, September 21, at the historic home of Shirley Nehring. Linc Smelser, the award-winning conductor of the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra, traded his baton for his cello and was joined by fellow cellist Stephen Balderston for a unique program of music for two cellos. Mr. Balderston served ten years as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’ s assistant principal cellist and is now professor of cello and chair of the strings department at DePaul University's School of Music.
This annual fall tradition is a thank-you to members of the Kishwaukee Symphony Associates who are generous supporters of our community's award-winning orchestra. In addition to the opportunity to hear top-notch musicians, those in attendance heard details of the orchestra’s upcoming season. Following the program, there was time to meet the two musicians, indulge in the delectable appetizers and desserts provided by members of the Associates, and chat with fellow music lovers. The afternoon provided an exciting prelude to the upcoming concert season which is composed of the usual four subscription concerts, including the very popular Holiday Pops Concert, plus a free Halloween Concert suitable for children and adults. You can view the concert season here.
