KSA Celebrates 25th Anniversary

In the fall of 1983 a group of dedicated and energetic women met to form a support group for the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra (KSO), the orchestra for our community.  They called themselves the Kishwaukee Symphony Associates.  For a number of years, in addition to their membership drive, these women sponsored popular luncheon/style shows to augment the KSO's operating expenses.  Local merchants supplied the clothes that were modeled.

In 2000, KSA's mission was redefined to support the newly established KSO Endowment Fund. Administered through the DeKalb County Community Foundation, the fund's purpose is to help insure the future viability of the orchestra.  Successful KSA-hosted fundraisers have included three"Music in Motion" events, a painted violin auction, and "An Evening in Vienna."

KSA's annual membership drive is an important facet of their fundraising efforts.  Membership includes an afternoon of special music with an overview of the upcoming concert season by KSO Music Director Linc Smelser, plus a reception featuring appetizers and desserts from the KSA recipe collection, "Elegant Encores." Members are listed in the concert programs and receive the KSA Winter Newsletter.

Membership in KSA is open to anyone interested in classical music who believes that having a fine local symphony orchestra is a major plus for the cultural life of our area.  "Our 25th anniversary season would be a perfect time to join KSA, or renew your membership, to celebrate this milestone", adds KSA Chairperson, Gretchen Moore.
