About the Orchestra

The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra is an orchestra for the community, making important cultural contributions to by:

  1. Offering enriching performances of orchestral music for the region's residents and visitors.
  2. Providing orchestral music education for children and youth in the region, especially those who have limited access to such experiences.
  3. Providing a means for professional and amateur musicians in the region to play interesting and challenging music in a full orchestral setting.
  4. Providing opportunities for soloists and guest conductors, from the region and beyond, to perform before appreciative local audiences.

 

History

The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit community orchestra which provides a place for area musicians to use their talents in an orchestral setting.

The Kishwaukee Symphony consists of professional, student, and dedicated amateur musicians all within the community ranging from age sixteen to eighty.

The orchestra, founded in 1976, began by getting together to play informally, to rehearsing once a week and presenting four concerts a season at the Egyptian Theatre. It also provides a family listening experience of interest and excellence.

Its programs are enhanced by including guest conductors and soloists from the area who have national reputations. The orchestra's plans and policies are established by the Music Director and a Board of Directors composed of citizens from the community.
